Accounting Freeware

I have tried, with limited success, to use Peachtree Accounting, Microsoft Money, and Quicken Home and Business. They are all good. Too good for me. They have more features than I could ever need and they make assumptions about me that are not true. That I know what I am doing, for one. They do things like double entering a check from an account if you enter it once when you wrote it and later get it back with a check number on it. I have had to create categories like “I don’t know where this came from” in order to reconcile the program with the real world. The program still wants to know at what bank this category applies and whether it is a withdrawal or a deposit. How I wish I had taken a business and accounting course somewhere along the way. If you find yourself identifying with any of that, you might want to try these two freeware accounting programs.

“AceMoney Lite - Free Personal Finance Manager,” is a freeware version of a more powerful accounting package by MechCad. It is available in English, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.
